The Society for the Study of the Short Story has elected Cork for the venue of its 10th International Conference on the Short Story in English to be held in June, 2008.
2008 Short Story Contest
The Lonely Voice
The Society for the Study of the Short Story (S.S.S.S.), host of the International Conference on the Short Story in English, is sponsoring its biennial short story contest.
Writers wishing to compete in contest must do the following:
Submit short story of no more than 30 pages (in Word format) to Maurice A. Lee, Conference Director, at mauricel@uca.edu or submit hard copy accompanied by disk to Maurice A. Lee, Conference Director, University of Central Arkansas, College of Liberal Arts, 201 Donaghey Avenue, 120 Irby Hall, Conway, AR 72035-0001
Include a one page biography including previously published works (note: new and emerging writers are encouraged to submit manuscripts.) Please note as well that the story submitted may not be previously published or under consideration to be published elsewhere. A violation of this rule will disqualify the story for consideration.
Manuscript must be accompanied by $30.00 reading fee. Forms of payment are check, money-order or credit card. Checks should be made out to The Society for Study of the Short Story.
Submission deadline is February 29, 2008.
Prizes are awarded for first, second and third place.
First Prize ................ $300
Second Prize .......... $200
Third Prize ............... $100
The first prize winner will be given the opportunity to read her/his story at the 10th International Conference on the Short Story in English being held in Cork, Ireland in 2008.
Clark Blaise will be the judge and determine the winners.
